Band-aids

The band-aid stage has hit our house :o(

These days if Eden pinches her finger in her sunglasses...she needs a band-aid.
If she gets a paper cut...she needs a band-aid.
If she bumps her hip on the corner of the couch...she needs a band-aid.
If she is tired...she needs a band-aid.

Funny because before she was scared of them, then just generally disliked them, and recently would pull them off after a few minutes, but now they are a necessity to be able to function throughout the day. Yesterday she told me she had a fever and needed a band-aid ASAP. She was fine and most certainly did not need a band-aid; there was no fever, no illness, and no owie that needed attending.

I have tried to explain to her that band-aids only help certain types of owies, but she seems to think that if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction a band-aid will come to her rescue and redirect the gusts.

A few nights ago I thought I would teach her a lesson. She had a scratch on her ankle that was a few days old and already scabbed up. She was insisting she most definitely needed a band-aid even after I explained that scabs were natures band-aids. So, instead of getting her a regular one I got a big ol' gauze patch out with a roll of medical tape and I taped up her entire foot since it the gauze patch was so big. I thought she would freak, but instead she gave a sigh of relief once she was mended and turned in for the night. Ha, the joke was on me! My plan totally back fired and then kept back firing throughout the night. Apparently I did not do a good enough taping job and as it started to come unstuck in her sleep Eden would wake up just enough to cry about her band aid coming off and how she needed it so desperately to stay on. Simply ridiculous in my book!

So, for now we are going with the band-aid phase as long as it is a owie that will benefit from the aid. I have had to resolve to pick my battles with this one and leave it up to Chepe to divvy out the band-aids. And, we absolutely will not have fancy ones with princesses or Sponge Bob in our house to complicate things any further in regards to this newest three year old trend.
