Last year the day after Halloween she proclaimed that she would be Ariel next year. She did not waiver one iota, so we followed her lead and dressed as Prince Eric, Ursula, Ariel, and Andrina. She had wanted Lily to be Flounder, but I directed her to having a sister mermaid instead.

Since I do not sew I tried to push for store bought costumes, but Eden insisted that they were not quite right and wanted a 'real tail' and 'purple boobs'. Thank goodness for a nifty product called Mighty Mendit, it was the answer to my costume making prayers. That stuff is awesome and I now joke that it is my duct tape and need to do a testimonial for the product. There is not a single stitch in any of the parts we made in these costumes.

Eden had full creative authority on the costumes and helped create them all. She chose the material, helped me dye the 'skin' with tea, beaded each of our necklaces herself (I only held one end & tied the knot), painted her own seashells (two coats even to get it just the right purple glittery shade), and quickly proclaimed when something was not correct looking (and told us to look it up online to be sure how to make it look).

After looking on the internet for ideas on how to create tails and tentacles we did it 'purple boobs' and all. This homemade costume means a lot to me because I am not domestic at all, but with the help of a determined three year old I think we pulled The Little Mermaid theme off pretty good. And, most importantly it was exactly what Eden wanted.

Sure, I wish that she did not pick Ursula for me since that meant I had to be a big ugly octopus witch, but hey! Maybe next year I will actually be able to be something nonfat that requires no bold blue eye shadow (I was Mimi from the Drew Carey Show last year since I was hugely prego with Lily). Also, I thought Eden would want Chepe to be King Triton, but she had her mind made up with him being someone else, Prince Eric.

It was really cute when he protested and she said, 'but Papa, I need a Prince.' That melted my heart but, the cutest moment was when Chepe was ready and she grabbed his hand and said, 'dance with me Prince Eric.' Wonder what she has in store for us for next year?
