Lily is eight months old, so 2/3 of the way to her 1st birthday. That means I need to start planning for the big event. Actually, I must confess I have been planning her first birthday party since about May. It will be the last first birthday in our house, so I want it to be something simple and sweet for our Lilybug (hint, hint on the theme).
Lily is a mover and a shaker and we can hardly keep up with her since she is a speedy gonzalez. She has mastered the army crawl and is now trying a real crawl, but has not quite gotten it yet. She can lift her belly up and is doing the rocking back and forth thing babies do before they figure out how to actually move forward in that position. At the pace she is trying to master the belly lift crawl I am guessing we will be in def con 4 of baby mobility in about two weeks, if not sooner. Honestly, within just a few hours today I saw her improve. Let's just say we are a bit scared of her acquisition of this new skill.
Lily is busy, busy. We cannot take our eyes off her for a second. She has discovered that there is more past the end of the carpet (and banging on the tile makes a loud noise), that rooms lead to other room (it is almost baby gate time), and that the end of the bed is not something to be scared of despite how many times you go bonk (thank goodness our bed is really low to the ground).
Good thing we have electric outlet covers because she is already picking at them (something Eden never did, so this is new to us), and can also open up the bottom drawer of my file cabinet (you have to push the button to the left and pull it open at the same time, but she has done it three times already somehow). Nothing is safe from Lily's curiosity. A fact so true that Eden has put her princess dolls on lock down since "her baby" found chewing on their feet mighty helpful with her teething.
Speaking of teething; Lily has six teeth and two more look like they are on the way. Things have settled back down since the last few broke through her gums within a few days of each other. No more whining, fussing, and she is back to her happy little self. Even with all those teeth she still prefers breast milk and refuses most solids unless it is something new and it peaks her curiosity for a few bites. I am not stressing about it at all though since I know she is healthy, growing, back to regular pooping, and obviously getting what she needs from my 'leche'.
I did have a scare this week though with my pump dieing. Luckily I had a spare on hand or I would have been on the hunt for a 24 hour Wal-mart and/or knocking on my friend Kellee's door in the middle of the night to borrow hers. This brought up the thought that I should see if Lily still remembers how to latch or not at the breast. Kellee said I should try just in case something like another pump malfunction happens again and just to know for the sake of knowing. We discussed nipple confusion and that I really did not think Lily would remember my breast, so I decided to mill the thought around a little and maybe give it a go when I had some free uninterrupted time.
Well, that was until today.
Lily was hungry and wanted her leche. My pump bag was on the ground from bringing it in from the car. Lily eyed it, crawled over to it, and started to suck on the breast cones. There was my answer: hungry go to pump, not breast. I laughed a little and wished the camera was near to snap a picture since it was cute and would have been a great baby book snap shot. Maybe I will still try at the breast per Kellee's advice, but for now I got another back up pump just in case.

16 lbs
27 1/2" long
I was right! I thought she grew a little because she seemed taller in her exersaucer.
Hamming it up just a little

We had to wait until Eden was napping for this adventure since it is her automobile.
